Music Lessons for Primary & Intermediate Students (Ages 4 - Year 8)

Our music lessons are designed for children aged 4 years to Year 8, providing an enriching musical experience for primary and intermediate-aged students.

Annual Membership

• Cost: $200 per school year (February - December) per instrument.

• Classes are funded by a combination of Ministry of Education support and parent contributions.
   

Lesson Schedule

Lessons run for the entire school year, from February through December, during school terms.
All lessons are held Saturday mornings between 8 AM - 12 PM at Mangapikopiko School, Papakura.

2025 Term Dates:

• Term 1: Saturday 1st February – Saturday 5th April

• Term 2: Saturday 3rd May – Saturday 14th June (No lessons on 31st May for King's Birthday & 21st June for Matariki)

• Term 3: Saturday 19th July – Saturday 13th September

• Term 4: Saturday 11th October – Saturday 6th December (No lessons on 25th October for Labour Weekend)
   

Class Times:

8:00 AM, 8:45 AM, 9:45 AM, 10:30 AM & 11:15 AM

Each class is 45 minutes long and taught in groups.

Instrument Hire

We offer a variety of instruments for hire on an annual basis:

• Flutes, Clarinets, Trumpets, Violins, Trombones: $100 per school year

• Cello: $130 per school year

• Saxophone, French Horn: $180 per school year

• Guitar: $60 per school year

Instruments must be returned by the last day of the school year. We prioritize instrument hire for first-year students when needed. Students are responsible for the care of their instruments and will be charged for any damage or loss. Late return of instruments incurs a $40 fee.
 

Instruments You Need to Provide

Students must provide their own instruments for the following:

• Keyboard (for practise at home only, we have keyboards to use in lessons. Keyboards do not need any bells and whistles. We recommend 61 key keyboards so they are not too small)

• Ukulele (We recommend MusicWorks or the Rockshop)

• Recorder (Basic recorders are for sale from the Music School)

• Electric & Bass Guitar (small portable amp also needed)
   

Students who use music stands must bring their own. A limited number of music stands are available for purchase from the Music School.

Tuition Books

Most lessons require specific music books, which are available for purchase at the school. Contact us for pricing details on the required books for your instrument.
